Greenhouse gases are gaseous substances that contribute to the heating of the atmosphere by capturing infrared rays. Some are naturally present in the atmosphere (such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide), while others are the result of human activity (such as CFCs). Whatever their origin, their concentration has constantly grown since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, in the mid-19th century.
