Kekulene. Molecular model of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon kekulene (C48.H24), an example of a circulene. It was first synthesized in 1978. It is named after August Kekule, who discovered the structure of the benzene ring. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (dark grey) and hydrogen (white). Illustration.
