Hermaphrodite genitalia. Hermaphrodites have both sets of reproductive organs, the male testes and female ovaries, along with ambiguous external genitalia. The condition is often caused by a hormonal imbalance resulting from glandular dysfunction. This photograph is part of a series that was taken in 1860 by the French photographer Nadar (1820-1910) at the request of the chair of the Paris Municipal Hospital.
