Nicholas II, Tsar of Russia and his son, Alexei, in military uniform, 1915. Nicholas II (1868-1918), Emperor of Russia from 1894 and the Tsarevich Alexis (1904-1918), who was a haemophiliac. Nicholas was forced to abdicate after the Russian Revolution in 1917, and he, Alexei and the rest of the Russian imperial family were murdered by Communists at Ekaterinburg in 1918.
