Kamchatka Peninsula, satellite image. The Kamchatka Peninsula lies at the far east of the Russian Federation. The region contains 160 volcanoes, 29 of which are active. It is covered in snow and ice for 8 months a year. This image was obtained on 21st March 2014 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Aqua satellite.
