Study of the African slave trade, 1900. This chart (titled 'The Georgia Negro: A Social Study') was prepared by US sociologist and civil rights activist W. E. B. Du Bois (1868-1963) for The Exhibit of American Negroes at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900. The intent of this exhibit was to show the economic and social progress of African Americans since emancipation. The diagram shows routes of the African slave trade, with the US state of Georgia starred. The exhibit by W. E. B. Du Bois included around 30 graphs and charts. The wider exhibit included hundreds of photographs of African-American culture. The exhibit materials are housed at the Library of Congress.
