Sahib Din.Vibhi?a?a is overcome with grief at the death of his brother; who despite his wickedness acted out his life in accordance with the dharma into which he was born. Rama consoles him and in full council instructs Vibhi?a?a and the remaining demons to perform Rava?a's funeral rites; the wood for which is gathered by monkeys and demons. He tells Lak?ma?a to consecrate Vibhi?a?a king of La?ka. Rava?a's body is prepared for cremation by his lamenting wives; headed by his chief wife Mandodari. With eloquent gestures the women express their grief and Mandodari unbraids her hair in the traditional gesture of the bereaved wife.Udaipur; 1652.From: Ramayana; Yuddha Kanda.Add. 15297 (1); f. 173London; British Library.
