The Kaibab squirrel (Sciurus aberti kaibabensis) is found only in the ponderosa pine forests of the Kaibab Plateau, on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. It is a subspecies of Abert's squirrel (Sciurus aberti), found on the south side of the canyon, and together they provide an example of evolution through geographic isolation.
