The Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) is about 9 inches long. Its back and wings are brown and black, and its chest is bright yellow with a black V on it. The meadowlark's colors may be a little duller in the winter. The western meadowlark lives in meadows, plaines, prairies, and other open grasslands. This individual was photographed in Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Reserve of New Mexico.
