The Ruddy Duck Drake (Oxyura jamaicensis) is a small chunky duck with a long tail that is often held straight up. In the breeding season the male Ruddy Duck has a chestnut colored body, black crown and white cheeks. Females and winter males are a dusky brown, with whitish cheeks of the female crossed by a dark stripe. The male Ruddy Duck's bill is blue in the breeding season, black at other times.
