Tarantulas are common encounters when night hiking through neotropical rainforests. This is a member of the genus Avicularia. It has made a silken home atop of a bromeliad leaf and waits for prey to wander too close. The common name for tarantulas of this group are 'pink toe tarantulas.' This individual was photographed on a night hike at the CICRA research center, Madre de Dios, Peru.
