Red-legged Pademelon (Thylogale stigmatica) with pouch young. This small rainforest wallaby grows to a height of around 50 cms. It lives in eastern coastal rainforests and wet eucalypt woodlands from the tropical north to the temperate south of Australia. Although solitary in habits, small groups of 3 or 4 animals will congregate to feed. In the tropical north, it is common in suburban backyards that border rainforest. This female pademelon, with the head of its offspring protruding from its pouch, was photographed in a backyard. Kuranda, North Queensland, Australia.
