A Formica ant (in rufa species group) tends aphids on stems of inflorescence of osha, Ligusticum porteri, at 9500 feet in the Colorado Rockies. Biologist Kailen Mooney conducts this research at the Rocky Mountain Biological laboratory in Gothic, Colorado. Aphids provide a "honeydew" reward to the ants, which protect them and the plant. August, 2013.
