Plateau Striped Whiptails (Aspidoscelis velox) are not native to Oregon but are from the desert southwest of the USA. A few decades ago a specimen was accidentally introduced to The Cove Palisades State Park on the shores of Lake Bill Chinook in Central Oregon. Only one was necessary to establish a population as these lizards reproduce by parthenogenesis, a form of natural cloning and are all female. Highly unusual for an invasive species, they have had little negative impact on native species.
