Three orb web spiders of the genus Epeira, as illustrated by Carl Wilhelm Hahn in his Monographia Aranearum, also known as Monographie der Spinnen, in the 1820s. Epeira is now considered a synonym of Araneus. In the web is Argiope lobata, one of the largest spiders found in Europe. On the bottom left is Araneus angulatus, and on the right, Araneus circe.
