Cave stalactites. Stalactites are created by calcium carbonate, dissolved in ground water, dripping through the caves. The carbonate is deposited slowly, drop by drop over hundreds of years, to create stalactites like this. Over longer periods of time, the stalactites could grow large enough to reach stalagmites growing from the floor, thus forming a limestone pillar.
