Celestite, strontium sulfate, occurs in many worldwide localities, and mainly in sedimentary rocks. It often forms large crystals, usually colorless or pale blue, but cuttable material is scarce and the material is difficult to polish. Hence, cut gems are quite rare, especially when as large as this 16.3 carat emerald cut stone from the Malagasay Republic (Madagascar).
