Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, as seen by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite, August 14, 2015. Apostle Islands National Lakeshore includes 21 islands in Lake Superior and a bit of mainland Wisconsin. It is well known for its lighthouses, shoreline rock formations and glacial sand deposits, such as the sand spit on the southern end of Outer Island (top right) and the tombolo at Stockton Island (center right).
