Shasta Dam, in California. Located on the Sacramento River, it is a part of the Central Valley Project. It impounds a reservoir 35 miles long with a capacity of 4,500,000 ac. feet. The water is used for irrigation and electric power generation. The dam is 602 feet high and 3,460 feet long, and contains 8,711,000 cubicv yards of concrete. its spillway drops 480 feet, making it the highest overflow dam in the world.
