Opened in 2007, this iconic work by the architect Giancarlo Mazzanti clings to the mountainside of the Medellin favella, Santo Domingo. In 2004 the 'Metrocable', an aerial tramway connected to the Metro system was opened. It joined the mountainside favellas with the new Metro system. The Parque Biblioteca is a combination library, park, computer training room, day care center, and community meeting place. A place of modern culture and learning, it is a radical and different way to deal with the remote poverty of the favella: by bringing in culture.
