Precinct of Amun-Re, part of the Karnak temple complex, north of modern day Luxor or ancient Thebes. Photographed in 1853 or 1854 by John Beasly Greene (American, born France, 1832 - 1856). Salted paper print from a waxed calotype negative. The Precinct of Amun-Re, located near Luxor, Egypt, is one of the four main temple enclosures that make up the immense Karnak Temple Complex. It was built around the 19th Egyptian Dynasty (ca. 1290-1224 BCE). The temple complex is dedicated to the principal god of the Theban Triad, Amun, in the form of Amun-Re.
