A photochrom print of Gezira bridge, Cairo, open for sailing ships to pass through it. Spanning the Nile River, Kobri el Gezira Bridge connected downtown Cairo to Gezira Island and the Zamalek district. Completed in 1871, the truss bridge lasted until the 1930s when it was replaced by the Qasr al-Nil Bridge. This image was made by French industrialist Paul Fleury. Photochrom (also called the A瓣c process) prints are colorized images produced from black-and-white photographic negatives via the direct photographic transfer of a negative onto lithographic printing plates. The process is a photographic variant of chromolithography, a broader term that refers to color lithography in general.
