A pen and ink cartoon by Clifford Berryman from 1933 showing "The sprirt of the New Deal." The New Deal was a series of programs that were intended to stimulate the economy and reform business during the Great Depression. Put in place by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the New Deal included the National Recovery Administration (NRA), which tried to stabilize prices and wages. Not an economic success, the NRA was ended by the Supreme Court in 1935.
