It is usually performed by a specialized medical doctor called a pathologist. In part with a long history of autopsy and dissection brought a new way to advance medicine and research. Some of the only ways to understand a disease is to be able to see how it affects the body. By opening up the body and studying these effects, scientist have been able to advance medicine to kill these diseases unlike in the past when scientists couldn't fully understand the effects of the disease on the body. Print based on Enrique Lombardo's "Heart's Anatomy", 1890.
