The Poulnabroune Dolmen is a Neolithic grave site, known as a 'Wedge Tomb.' The capstone is wider and higher at the top, facing the setting sun, and lower and narrower at the back. The tomb is dated between 3800 and 3200 BC. The site was excavated in 1968. The remains of twenty adults and a newborn child were found. It is located in an area known as the 'Burren' (rocky place), a vast area of karst limestone with little soil, no trees, and no water.
