Larry Rivers stands before "History of the Russian Revolution: From Marx to Mayakovsky" at the Jewish Museum in New York, 1965. Rivers, born Yitzrok Loiza Grossberg, began as a jazz saxophonist and was a contemporary and friend of Miles Davis. As a painter, he produced pop art that bordered on the abstract and became one of America's most important postwar artists. Born 1923, died 2002.
