Entitled: "Cattleya dowiana aura" taken from "Orchid album: comprising colored figures and descriptions of new, rare and beautiful orchidaceous plants" by B. S. Williams, 1891 edition. Benjamin Samuel Williams (March 2, 1822 - June 24, 1890) was an English orchidologist and nurseryman in London, known mainly for his horticultural notes on orchids in publications such as The Orchid Grower's Manual (London 1871), Select Orchidaceous Plants (London 1862 onwards) and The Orchid Album (London 1882-97). Cattleya dowiana (literal translation: Dow's Cattleya) is a species of orchid. Orchidaceae is a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants with blooms that are often colorful and often fragrant, commonly known as the orchid family. All orchids are perennial herbs that lack any permanent woody structure. Orchids are easily distinguished from other plants, as they share some very evident shared derived characteristics. Among these are: bilateral symmetry of the flower (zygomorphism), many resupinate flowers, a nearly always highly modified petal, fused stamens and carpels, and extremely small seeds.
