Entitled: "Inoculating child with diphtheria antitoxin at Pasteur Institute." The Pasteur Institute in New York was inaugurated in 1893 and mostly provided rabies treatment. Starting in 1895, Gibier expanded the Institute, purchasing a 200-acre estate in Suffern, New York, where he could both provide a sanitarium as well as barns for the horses, cows, and sheep he needed to produce the diphtheria and smallpox vaccines. The Institute on Central Park West closed, but maintained an office on West 23rd Street to evaluate bite victims. Image appeared in Harper's Weekly, January 3, 1895.
