Sphaleromantis, a type of golden-brown algae. It has two flagella of unequal length. The longer one, seen here, has a bilateral array of mastigonemes; each mastogoneme is a stiff bristle with periodic striations and two terminal hairs (some organisms have three). The flagella are attached to the nucleus by striated roots. Scanning electron micrograph, magnified 20,000x at 7" x 7".
