Color enchanced micrograph of the region of interdigitation of actin and myosin filaments at the end of the A-band. The unfixed muscle was quickly frozen using liquid helium, then fractured and deep-etched. Cross bridges between the myosin and actin filaments are clearly visable. A fine axial periodicity can be seen in the actin filaments fo the I-band at the left of the figure.
