Color enhancement of a transmission electron micrograph of a Golgi apparatus. This cell structure (similar to endoplasmic reticulum) processes lipids and proteins synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum and stores and packs materials to be exported from the cell. It is often called the "shipping department" of the cell with vesicles that pinch off, moving to the cell membrane to release material from the cell.
