This is a young neutrophil (white blood cell of the polymorphonuclear leukocytes subgroup) that has matured just past the band stage. The nucleus has a relatively smooth contour except for one end which is beginning to show lobulation. The cytoplasmic granules that characterize the neutrophil are relatively fine and somewhat variable in size. The size of this cell is approximately 9 micrometers in diameter. Wright's stain. x2150.
