This micrograph depicts a ventral view of a cleared and mounted Sarcoptes scabei mite specimen. Burrowing mites cause a skin rash most frequently found on hands, particularly the webbing between fingers, the folds of the wrist, elbow or knee, the penis, breast; and shoulder blades. Burrows and mites may be few in number and difficult to find.
