Date palms (Phoenix dactylifera) in a plantation at Eulo, western Queensland, Australia. Probably originating in North Africa, date palms are cultivated in hot, dry areas worldwide for fruit and now wine. Each tree can bear 50kg of dates, for over 100 years.
