Flower heads and leaves of the rainforest tree, Ketum (Mitragyna speciosa), also known as Kratom. Growing the tree is illegal in Thailand and possession of the leaves is banned in Malaysia, because the leaves of this tree contain the hallucinogenic alkaloid mitragynine. Kratom has just been added to the DEA's list of Class 1 Controlled Substances, despite it showing promise as a non-opioid pain reliever an as a treatment or less-dangerous substitute for opioid addiction.
