Colony of Adelie Penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae) on bluff of Three Sisters Point, King George Island, in the Bransfield Strait just north of the Antarctic Peninsula, October, 2007. Orange lichens festoon the rocky cliffs, and sea ice on a partly frozen sea is slowly melting in the Antarctic spring. The penguins are courting and making nests, and a few eggs have been laid.
