New Jersey tea, also known as red-root; Ceanothus americanus. A member of the buckthorn family, Rhamnaceae. Blooms in spring. During the period of the Revolutionary War a refreshing tea was made from the dried leaves. Native from Quebec and FL west to MN and TX. Prefers dry areas of poor soil. Photo Dallas Co., TX
