Thingvellir (Pingvellir) Valley, part of the central rift valley of Iceland, where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is splitting apart at a rate of a few centimeters a year. Fault blocks tilting down on the left are separating as the western flanks of the rift valley spread apart. The original Icelandic parliament houses are in the center, and were the site of the world's first parliament. Pan merger July 2011.
