Optical fibers. Spots of colored light appear at the end of a spray of optical fibers from a fiber-optic cable. Fiber-optic cables consist of bundles of very thin but hollow glass filaments, each of which can carry pulses of light completely trapped inside by internal reflections. Cables can carry enormous quantities of data in digital form at the speed of light, making them invaluable in telecommunications and computing.
