Sun dog or parhelion, a bright circular spot on a solar halo, here visible as a "winter rainbow." A solar halo is an optical phenomenon caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere. This one was observed between Panorama Mountain and a spruce forest, at 12:00 p.m. in late November, Alaska. The temperature was -20 degrees Farhenheit.
