Model of aggregation produced by chaos theory. This computer-generated image shows the apparently random clumping of particles within a fluid suspension. However, research has discovered that aggregations appear to be ruled by chaos theory. Each part of the structure reflects the shape of larger parts. In a real suspension, aggregations form from the collision of particles whose movement is governed by collisions. Van der Waal's forces between colliding particles may bind them together, starting an irreversible aggregation.
