The 40-inch CHARA telescope, operated by Georgia State University's Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy (front), is considered the most powerful instrument of its kind in the world.The 60-in telescope (back), originally built in 1908, is one of the most productive and successful telescopes in astronomical history. It is currently configured as a multi-purpose instrument capable of providing different optical configurations for a variety of scientific uses as well as public outreach. The 150-foot solar telescope tower (far back) became operational in 1912. Currently it is operated by the Division of Astronomy and Astrophysics of UCLA and provides high-quality maps of the Sun's activity on a daily basis. Mt. Wilson observatory, founded in 1904, is located north of Los Angeles in Southern California. Over the years there has been a number of revolutionary discoveries made at Mt. Wilson Observatory.
