Octahedral molecular models, artwork. Each model consists of six atoms and twelve bonds, making up the vertices and edges of an eight-sided shape known as an octahedron. Because the six atoms in each molecular model are equally spaced, these are regular octahedra. Molecules in the shape of an octahedron have been developed as molecular cages for use in nanotechnology.
