A molecular model of trypsin, an enzyme found in the digestive system responsible for the breakdown of proteins. Produced in the pancreas as trypsinogen, it is secreted into the duodenum of the small intestine where it will be converted into trypsin. If trypsin is activated before entering the duodenum, it can begin to break down the proteins found within the pancreas, leading to a self-digestive condition known as pancreatitis.
