A molecular model of the rotavirus, a common virus responsible for severe diarrhea and gastroenteritis among infants and young children. Most children have been infected with rotavirus, but build immunity to the virus so that subsequent infections in adulthood are less severe. The virus itself is transmitted through the fecal-oral route via contaminated surfaces or objects, and can also infect animals and livestock.
