Alka-Seltzer is an effervescent antacid and pain reliever. It contains three active ingredients: aspirin, sodium bicarbonate, and citric acid. When dissolved in water, sodium bicarbonate and citric acid react to produce bubbles of carbon dioxide gas: H3C6H5O7(aq) + NaHCO3(aq) -> Na3C6H5O7(aq) + CO2(g) + H2O(l).
