Damaged solar panels, (at center right), and radiator panel, (white, at lower center), on the Spektr module of the Russian Space Station Mir. On June 25th, 1997, Mir was struck by a Progress unmanned supply vessel. Spektr was punctured near the base of the damaged solar panel, causing it to depressurize. The crew successfully isolated Spektr. Spektr was one of several science modules which were added to Mir since the core of the space station was launched in 1986. This image was taken from the space shutting during mission STS-86, (9/25/97-10/06/97), when the American astronaut David Wolf replaced Michael Foales as a Mir crew member.
