French liberty, Nixon, John, -1818, artist, [1793 July], on the right Liberty is torn from her Temple by a hired band of Ruffians bound & going to be Sacrificed to the rage of these Ignorant People, and on the left, artists and artisans, a mother with two children, and others are driven away by booted thugs with clubs, at center a spinning wheel burns, a boy adds a book Fine Arts to the fire, and an old man breaks in half the staff of Liberty.
