Olive Ridley Turtle - egg laying (Lepidochelys olivacea). Village of Ostional on the west coast of Costa Rica. Ostional is a very interesting village where all the people are involved in the protection of the turtles. They collect, under strict control, part of the eggs deposed on the first day of laying and sell them, always under control, as tapas in the big towns. The 'arribada' (egg-laying) is usually for 3 days, so the turtles on the second and third day would move the first eggs laid anyway. The villagers then also fight again the poachers, clean the beaches for more freedom for the turtles, protect the newborn babies from predators until they reach the sea etc.
