Photograph showing the Cyclists participating in the 24 hour Bicycle race at Herne Hill velodrome, on the 22nd July 1892, shortly before the start. The race was won by F.W. Shorland (centre background in image) who rode a 'geared ordinary' (or 'penny farthing') to achieve a distance of 413 miles. J.M. James (on the right of the image, no. 3) came second with a distance of 407 miles.
